John Joseph is the founder and purveyor of the PITS label from Detroit, Michigan. His latest EP, Get Vicious, is an exploration of genres in electronic music ranging from acid, to techno, to electro. Over the past two years, he has soaked up a massive amount of material coming from within the city and it has translated into a diversity of releases. These four tracks are focused on the dance floor, as well as sharing a snapshot in time. During a period of great change for Detroit, it is this music that has been consistent in bringing people together. And here, John captures the feeling of moving your body and being ‘vicious’ in expressing yourself. It is an invitation to let go of outer judgements, and truly be free. Prepare to be locked into a hard groove because Roque Ybarra has provided PITS with two dance-floor ready jack tunes in the form of his Lock Down EP. ‘Workin’ and ‘Clink Clink’ both bear a heavy bassline that is complemented with plenty of slapping percussion. Roque has been active in the Detroit dance music scene for the past 5 years, and is currently running two monthly parties at The Whiskey Disco and Temple Bar as part of the much beloved local DJ duo So Vague with co-conspirator Beatloaf. He keeps his approach to dance music light and easy-going with a knack for pulling out the deep tech burners at peak hour.

Known by her Techno Teacher alias, Kels has been a great supporter of the dance scene in Detroit and is also an educator in city schools. In recent times, she has turned DJ due to her compulsion of sharing music and she has provided PITS with a mix that focuses on the power of the female voice through sporadic vocals and genres. She recently signed on to a residency with Sexual Tension at Temple Bar Detroit. Let this mix be a taste of what you might expect every third Saturday of the month.
